Entrepreneur I Investor I Adviser I Speaker I #StartUp I #ScaleUp

I was born in Stoke-on-Trent, but grew up in a former mill town in Lancashire where I attended the local comprehensive school.  My mother is from the Parish of St. Philip in Barbados and came to the UK in the early 1960s and spent her career working for the NHS before retiring and starting her own business.  My father is from working class Manchester and was one of the first to earn an academic scholarship to attend Cambridge University in the 1950s.

Although I am often referred to as an entrepreneur and a TV personality following my appearances as an investor on the prime-time BBC show ‘Dragons’ Den’ and the Channel 4 series, ‘The Secret Millionaire’, I have a professional background in law, investment banking and fund management. On Dragons’ Den I invested in the personalised children’s book publisher Wonderbly, which was the #1 fastest growing company in Tech Track 2017.

I enjoy sharing my experience, insights, practical business advice and knowledge about entrepreneurship, business, #startups, #scaleups, innovation and the financing market for growth businesses.  I have a course, #Startup with Piers Linney, for anyone starting or growing a new business.

We are all going to have to be more enterprising whether an entrepreneur or employee.  High growth businesses need teams that are aligned and prepared for constant change.  Your senior management needs to plan for an uncertain tomorrow that will bear limited resemblance to yesterday.  Diversity should be embraced to ensure that you have access to the broadest and deepest talent pool.

I cover topics ranging from why your employees need to think like entrepreneurs to succeed; to financing high growth business; to how to #ScaleUp your business; to complex subjects such as the impact of technology on global securities trading and risk management (as I have done for FTSE-100 client).

I share inspiring and practical realities as well as insights into the future of business and the workplace.

I have also worked with a number of clients to create content and reached #1 in the Apple /iTunes Podcasts Chart in 2019 with 'Rethinking Business' in association with UK bank, NatWest.

“Piers was keynote speaker and customer panel host at our Small Business Live event at Cisco Live Barcelona 2019. His presentation and panel resonated extremely well with our audience and were top-rated sessions from the event programme by attendees. Piers is an insightful, energetic and entertaining speaker, with thought-provoking ideas and insights based upon his extensive business experience. His vibrance and enthusiasm during his presentation kept the audience engaged from start to end. Not only was he well received by the audience, he was easy and personable to work with, spending extra time listening to the other speakers and interacting with our team and delegates.”

"Offered a unique insight into the topics discussed based on his own experiences, and his genuine understanding of capital markets."

"Piers has had the biggest impact of any speaker that we have hosted in the 3 years since we have been running events…Super-efficient and easy to work with in organising, I wouldn't hesitate in working with Piers again."

I appeared as an investor on the BBC prime-time show ‘Dragons’ Den’ (Shark Tank in the USA) for two seasons (2013 – 2015).  Series 11 was BAFTA nominated. In 2011 I appeared in the popular Channel 4 series, ‘The Secret Millionaire’ where I went undercover into a Young Offenders Institution to learn more about the work of charities that support young offenders.  For television or literary enquiries, please contact Champions Talent Agency.

I have provided commentary and insight into business, entrepreneurship, innovation, finance and diversity on channels that include Sky News, BBC News, Bloomberg TV, MSNBC, ITV News, breakfast TV shows and a wide range of national and regional radio stations.  in 2019 I reached #1 on the Apple /iTunes Podcasts Chart with 'Rethinking Business' in association with UK bank, NatWest.

Entrepreneurs working on a #StartUp, or those with ambition to #ScaleUp an existing business, require access to no-nonsense, practical and timely advice so that they can execute like they have done it before. There is enough motivational content available and, although there is a huge amount of information available, it is often difficult to navigate.

I have created a course - #Startup with Piers Linney with over 76 lessons and 9.5+ hours of content to provide step-by-step and practical advice to anyone starting or growing a new business.  This will be launched during July 2019.  To find out more click the navigation link or here.

#ScaleUp is a content platform I am developing across a broad range of channels to support entrepreneurs and cut through the noise.
